Hiring is a two-sided match.
By Brian Passell, Ph.D. ·
It's easy to think about hiring from one side of the table.
The owner has a need. A candidate fills it. Done.
But every placement is a relationship, and a relationship has two sides.
You're the owner. The person you bring in has their own career goals, their own personal needs, their own reasons for doing this work. Those drivers are what make them successful — or what make them leave.
So clinical skill is the baseline, not the finish line. Can they do the job? That's table stakes.
The real questions are about alignment:
→ Do they share your philosophy of care?
→ Do they want to grow in the direction your practice is growing?
→ Does what they want in three years fit what you're building in three years?
When both sides line up, you don't just fill a role. You get someone who's building the same thing you are.
That's not recruiting. That's matchmaking.
